The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) has introduced a new service—Portland Gravel Street Service—for Portlanders who live on gravel streets. The service is FREE.
This service improves the condition of gravel streets across the city. Crews will fill in the ruts and potholes and smooth the surface of the gravel streets. The result will be smoother streets that will make neighborhood travel and access easier.
We are providing this service in response to many community requests to improve the condition of Portland’s gravel streets. For a run-down of the outreach that we did, please see this summary. In response to this and other community input, the Portland City Council directed us to develop the Gravel Streets Service.
We will perform this work on a three-year cycle between the months of November and May. Each year we will service the designated streets in different areas of the city.
In winter 2018, we worked in SE Portland south of SE Division. Coming this winter we will be in the rest of SE Portland and all of N/NE Portland. We will finish the cycle in Winter 2020 in SW and NW Portland.
After we provide the service, property owners will be responsible for the on-going maintenance of the street in front of their property. For more guidance about how to perform this maintenance, please visit this webpage.
This program is funded by general transportation funds.
