Council honors community response to Marysville school fire
December 9, 2009
At this morning's session, Council honored Portland Public Schools, local government, and the wider community for their response to the Marysville School fire last month.
Thanks to the unprecedented community effort, Rose City Park School was opened to the students of Marysville Elementary in 5 short days.
The Parks Bureau also played a role in this rebuilding, planting winter hearty plants and bulbs and supplying bark chips for the play areas around Rose City Park to create a welcoming space for the students of Marysville.
Nick was one of hundreds of volunteers who spent the Saturday following the fire working at Rose City Park to prepare the building. This community response, while not unusual in Portland, is nonetheless remarkable and more than deserving of Council recognition. Thanks to all who worked to help the children of Marysville Elementary.
