Portland Housing Bureau, Multnomah County partner to help landlords and low-income renters improve safety
April 14, 2010
Multnomah County has been awarded an $875,000 Healthy Homes Demonstration Grant from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD.) One of 25 recipients nationwide, the County will use this three-year grant to fund its Community Asthma Inspection and Referral (CAIR) Project.
The Portland Housing Bureau (PHB) will manage funds for repair and relocation, the Lead Hazard Control Grant, and the Small Rental Rehab Program.
Said PHB Director Margaret Van Vliet, "Low-income families, seniors and people with disabilities are among the communities most likely to live in poorly-maintained homes, which exacerbate chronic health conditions. We are delighted to work with the County to ensure that Portland-area landlords and residents have access to much-needed home repair funds."
