"Uncertain Times" opens at the Pittock Mansion
July 13, 2010
Story by Sarah Wigginton and Sonia Schmanski
This Friday, July 16, Nick will attend the opening reception of an exciting new exhibit at Portland's historic Pittock Mansion. Uncertain Times: Contemporary Art Views on the Fate of the Newspaper captures the challenges today's newspapers face as other news sources erode print media's traditional consumer base.
Henry Pittock, the mansion's original resident, became the owner of The Oregonian in 1860 and molded it into a thriving publication that served as the Northwest region's primary news source. Henry was responsible for shaping The Oregonian into the newspaper we know today.
Friday's opening reception, featuring art, blues, light refreshments, and summer views from the mansion, begins at 6:00 pm and is free. The exhibit runs until November 14 and regular admission rates apply. For more information visit the Pittock Mansion website or call (503) 823-3623.
