Sunday Parkways: Southeast
August 17, 2010
Sunday Parkways held it's penultimate day of bikes this past weekend with 4-8 mile loops through southeast Portland (see Bike Portland blog and photo album here). The locations included Sunnyside, Colonel Summers and Laurelhurst Parks.
Commissioner Fish participated in the event this weekend and had a blast riding among the crowds. He also took time to catch up with Friends of Trees (and their mascot, pictured left) as well as getting his copy of Mia Birk's Joyride signed at her book release party.
Portland Sunday Parkways is about connecting neighborhoods and people: walkers, runners, bicyclists, seniors, adults, and children all enjoying streets filled with surprises, performers, physical activities and food – and traffic-free. This year sees the most Sunday Parkways after Mayor Adams requested five total events planned for 2010.
The NEXT Sunday Parkways event will be Saturday, September 26th and will feature the Northwest neighborhood. For more information about Sunday Parkways and volunteer opportunities (such as intersection superheros) go to their Facebook Page.
