Keeping our public spaces open and safe
November 30, 2010
Commissioner Fish is exploring security protocols for large events in Portland Parks - Pioneer Courthouse Square, Washington Park, and others - and looking for common sense measures to improve public safety.
On Monday, Nick met with Police Chief Mike Reese to review existing security measures and identify steps to enhance safety.
For example, a ban on parking around the Square during events would help keep a clear buffer zone and increase pedestrian safety before, during, and after events.
On KGW's 'Hot Box,' Commissioner Fish told KGW's Stephanie Stricklen that keeping Pioneer Courthouse Square and other public gathering spaces open and safe for visitors is one of his top priorities.
