Council designates new Heritage Trees, introduces 'PDX Trees' app
October 26, 2011
Earlier today, the Council designated six new Heritage Trees in Portland.
When the City's Urban Forestry Commission created the Heritage Tree Program in 1995, it was the first of its kind in the country.
Today, Portland is home to almost 300 Heritage Trees representing more than 120 different species.
We're excited to share that we also now have a free iPhone and iPod app, PDX Trees, voted the 'Most Appealing App' in the Civic Apps Challenge.
It does everything from tell you the closest Heritage Tree to where to find a Coast Redwood.
You can also upload your own photos of the trees to help build a catalog of images showing how our Heritage Trees change over the seasons and over the years.
