Day of Homelessness Awareness
November 18, 2011
Story by David Nguyen
Early Tuesday morning, Nick took part in the second annual "Interfaith Day of Homelessness Awareness," jointly organized by the City, Multnomah County, and our community partners at JOIN as part of the National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week.
Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon, the Albina Ministerial Alliance, the Oregon Board of Rabbis, the Oregon Area Jewish Committee, the Muslim Educational Trust, and other faith community partners also partnered on the event.
This year's walk began at the Downtown Chapel Roman Catholic Parish, stopped at key sites - including Bud Clark Commons - for remarks from civic leaders, and concluded at the First Unitarian Church of Portland.
The theme of the day was three concrete actions people can take to help end homelessness: Donate, Volunteer, and Advocate.
