Nick was honored to speak at Proud Ground's celebration of its 150th homeowner last Wednesday.
Founded in 1999, Proud Ground is a local non-profit working to provide permanently affordable housing for low-income first-time homebuyers. Since then, they've helped 150 first-time buyers and their families purchase beautiful, affordable homes across Portland.
Proud Ground's homes prioritize energy-efficiency, showcase solid workmanship, and sell for about $130,000, much less than a market-rate home in the Portland area.
In exchange for the opportunity to purchase a quality home at such a low price, the homeowners agree to sell the home for an equally affordable price when they move. In this way, Proud Ground's homes start affordable and stay that way.
Proud Ground plays an important role in enhancing Portland’s livability by working with both non-profit and for-profit developers, and is one of our most valued community partners. One of the Portland Housing Bureau's areas of focus is supporting homeownership for communities that have traditionally had barriers to purchasing homes, and we're very proud to financially support the excellent work of Proud Ground.
