The Yards at Union Station breaks ground
March 6, 2012
The Portland Housing Bureau celebrated the ground-breaking of “Phase C” of the Yards at Union Station yesterday.
80 new, affordable rental homes will be added to the neighborhood, and will be home to individuals and families making 60% or less of the median family income. For a family of four, that means $43,200 per year.
These new homes ensure that Portlanders of all incomes have the opportunity to live in the city’s core, close to work or school. All 80 homes will remain affordable in our community for at least 60 years.
In addition to adding affordable homes to the area, it is also creating over 200 development and construction jobs for our local businesses.
This is the latest stage of a multi-stage development on a former 7-acre brownfield. The rehabilitation of the area earned Portland an award for “excellence in brownfield redevelopment” by the Environmental Protection Agency.
