Benefits of Trees

April 10, 2012

By David Nguyen

Have you ever wondered what trees do for us, besides looking good? A lot!

According to treebenefits.com, a site which allows anyone to make a simple estimation of the benefits of an individual tree, a Noble Fir (native to Oregon!) with a diameter of 30 inches, a tree native to Oregon will catch 4,174 gallons of storm water runoff every year!

Trees act as mini-reservoirs, controlling water runoff by increasing filtration and storage of rain water. This also reduces soil erosion by slowing rainfall before it gets to the soil.

In total, the 30-inch Noble Fir will provides the overall benefits of $184 every year – and the benefit will increase to $212 when the tree grows to 35 inches in size!
