Portland Habitat for Humanity Featured in the New York Times

May 11, 2012

By David Nguyen

Our partner, Habitat for Humanity Portland Metro/East is featured in the New York Times online edition today - it will also be featured in Saturday's paper edition!

As the oldest Habitat for Humanity affiliate on the West Coast, and the largest in Oregon, Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East has served low-income, hardworking families for over 30 years.

Their unique model of "sweat equity" gives low-income families the opportunity to achieve the dream of homeownership. Homebuyers are required to put in at least 500 hours of sweat equity - helping build the very community in which they will live and thrive.

Philanthropist John Gray saw the value in Habitat for Humanity, and offered his support to make Habitat in Portland a success.  His support helped Habitat for Humanity begin planning their largest build ever, which will bring 45 new affordable homes to East Portland.
