Portland Parks & Recreation and Central City Concern's Community Volunteer Corps will celebrate the completion of 10,000 volunteer hours in Portland parks at 2 pm today at Lair Hill Park.
During a financially difficult time, our many volunteers and sponsors provide vital support - including volunteer time to maintain our gardens and green spaces, and clearing and maintaining trails in various Portland Parks all across the metro area.
The 10,000 volunteer hours equal 416 days of round-the-clock work, or 1,250 eight-hour days.
500 Central City Concern CVC volunteers have spent a total of 193 days in the field since the program was established in 2009.
At today's event, Emily, a CCC volunteer, will speak about why she chose to volunteer in Portland’s parks, and how her experiences help enhance her skills and life. Parks Director Mike Abbaté will also be there to present CCC with a golden shovel commemorating this successful partnership.
