People of the Drum Project final performance Sunday
October 19, 2012
By Sophia Kecskes
You're invited to a free celebration with the People of the Drum Project! Come learn about the histories and traditions of four drum and dance ensembles from around the world. The groups will perform individually and then will partner on a collaborative finale that incorporates dances from each of the four groups.
To make this event possible, Portland Parks and Recreation has collaborated with Portland Taiko (Asian-American drum ensemble), the Obo Addy Legacy Project (African drum & dance ensemble), Medicine Bear (Native American drum & dance ensemble), Mexica Tiahui (Aztec drum & dance ensemble), and muralist Rodolfo Serna.
This Sunday's celebration is the final performance in this drum series. The performance will honor the memory of the late Obo Addy, a drummer, composer, musician, and teacher who passed away recently.
At the event all artists are invited to help create an on-site mural in collaboration with Serna.
