How does your garden grow?
April 22, 2013
On Saturday, Nick was proud to attend the Grand Opening Celebration of the Mt.Tabor Community Garden.
The garden was over ten years in the making and adds 85 new garden plots in Portland. It's so popular, it already has 250 people on the waiting list.
This garden was a true community effort. Community members served on the design steering committee and helped develop a “Good Neighbor Agreement” that serves as a model for future garden projects.
This was a momentous occasion because it celebrated the final Grand Opening of our 1,000 Gardens Initiative that we started in 2009. Not only did we meet our goal of adding 1,000 new community gardens, we surpassed it!
Although it’s the last official 1,000 Gardens garden, there are several more gardens already in the works for the coming year.
Our vision is that one day there will be a community garden in every neighborhood, and a learning garden at every school in Portland.
Special thanks to Friends of Portland Community Gardens, Board Chair Allen Field, Ames True Temper Tools, and all the community and neighborhood members that made this garden grow!
