When someone is in need, the Sandy River Station water crew doesn’t hesitate to reach out as a team, and offer whatever help they can. 

Located 20 miles east of Portland, the Sandy River Station crew’s office and maintenance building is stationed near the confluence of the Sandy and Bull Run rivers.  The 15-member team is responsible for the operations and maintenance of the Bull Run Watershed – the source of Portland’s pristine water. 

Recently, a local neighbor had fallen behind on his combined sewer, stormwater, and water services bill, and the crew was dispatched to shut-off his water. 

When they arrived, they recognized that their neighbor was going through a difficult time and experiencing challenging health issues.  Touched by their neighbor’s story, the team chipped from their own pockets, and paid for his overdue bill – ensuring that his services continued!

Tim Gradle, the Watershed and Conduit Supervisor at the Sandy River Station, says, “It’s all about being a good neighbor and looking out for each other.”
