Special guest blogger - Lilly Lee
June 3, 2015
My first day at work on Monday, June 1 was very friendly and warm. I was pleased by how welcoming Commissioner Nick Fish’s staff members were, instantly I was welcomed into their little Fish family. I did not get to meet Nick on Monday, since he was at a Medal of Honor Ceremony with President Obama in Washington, D.C. I am very excited and pleased to work with Nick and his crew members.
I went around to all the other Commissioners’ offices and met many staff members. Everyone was very approachable and pleasant, I also got to meet Mayor Charlie Hales. I am looking forward to meeting all the Commissioners of Portland and getting to know each and every one of them.
Later on, I got my picture taken, meaning I am official! I also have my bio up on Commissioner Fish’s website, and a welcoming announcement. I also went over my roles as an Intern: I will be a guest blogger (this is my first entry!), will do research projects, managing databases, drafting web stories for Nick, and many more. I hope to learn new skills from the Fish family.
Today is my second day of working here in the office. This morning I attended City Council. I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed listening to the community needs. I really appreciate the public voicing their desires and wishes to help the community flourish. Getting up to state your needs, wants, and desires is a hard and difficult thing to do. I know it is for me.
I had my first incoming phone call today. I needed a little help, but at the end I pulled through. I want to thank Jenny for helping me with my first phone call and Aja for helping me draft the phone call email to Nick.
Over all I just want to thank Asena for helping me answering all my questions and everyone at the office for an enjoyable time at work.
I am happy to be a part of the Fish family.
