News Advisory: Mayor Hales and Commissioner Novick will join with State, Metro, County, and Community leaders to kick off the community-wide Vision Zero Safety Task Force

(August 14, 2015) - On Monday, August 17th, Mayor Charlie Hales and Commissioner Steve Novick will join other city leaders, elected officials and community leaders to launch the Vision Zero Safety Task Force. Mayor Hales and Commissioner Novick will also announce key actions by the Portland Bureau of Transportation, Portland Police and Portland Fire and Rescue to achieve Portland’s Vision Zero Goals.

WHAT: Announcement of a major step forward in the community-wide effort to achieve Vision Zero. Vision Zero is an innovative transportation safety initiative that sets the goal of eliminating traffic deaths and serious injuries from Portland’s streets. In July, the Portland City Council voted unanimously to adopt Vision Zero’s goal that no loss of life is acceptable on city streets as official City policy.
