Yesterday, City Council approved important new funding for Age-Friendly Portland.

Portland is a proud member of the World Health Organization’s Global Age-Friendly Cities Project. In 2013, the City Council adopted an Action Plan for an Age-Friendly Portland.

The City’s investment of more than $51,000 demonstrates that we value and support this important work. Through a unique partnership with Portland State University’s Institute on Aging, Age-Friendly Portland will now be able to study the effects of Portland’s housing affordability crisis on older adults in our community – and to create a plan of action.

Nick is proud to serve on the Advisory Committee for Age-Friendly Portland. He also serves as Council liaison to Elders in Action, a local nonprofit dedicated to creating a vibrant community of elders who are active in civic engagement.

A special thanks to the rest of City Council for supporting this budget request, to Alan De La Torre and Margaret Neal for their strong leadership at Age-Friendly Portland, and to Portland State University, AARP, Elders in Action, and many others for their commitment to building an age-friendly community.

Check out Age-Friendly Portland’s website for more information about this great local organization.
