(June 8, 2016) Pedalpalooza is 3+ weeks of bikey fun, as they say. With nearly 300 different events, most organized by individuals like you, bikers of all persuasions are likely to find many events of interest - and most events are free!
SHIFT facilitates Pedalpalooza and is entirely volunteer run. In 2002, Portland hosted Bike Summer, a month-long celebration of bicycles and bike culture that drew more than 5,000 participants to events including bike-in movies, family rides, bike parades, bike repair workshops, and more. Bike Summer began in 1999 in San Francisco with the idea of traveling to a different city each year. The positive community response led local organizers to for SHIFT and continue the fun in Portland every year. Pedalpalooza was born with an open source online calendar as the main organizing tool.
Anyone and everyone can create, or suggest, an event using the online calendar. This year, Pedalpalooza takes place June 9 to July 4 and includes event favorites such as the Big Lebowski Ride, Disco Superhero Ride, Pokémon Ride, and a Poetry Reading Ride that help keep Portland weird and proud. The calendar even offers a range of family friendly rides such as a Cargo Bike 101 Ride, a Magical Unicorn Ride and a Kidical Mass Ride.
Check out the full calendar here and be sure to get out and enjoy the fun.
