News Release: Public invited to cheer on Mayor Hales’s Smart City Challenge presentation Thursday

UB Mobile PDX

(June 8, 2016)  – The Portland Bureau of Transportation will gather staff, partners and the public in the Portland Building Auditorium to watch Mayor Charlie Hales present Portland’s Smart City Challenge application to U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx via an online broadcast.

The U.S. Department of Transportation is hosting the mayors of the seven cities that are Smart City Challenge finalists. The city that wins the Challenge will receive up to $40 million from USDOT to help create a fully integrated, first-of-its-kind city that uses data, technology and creativity to shape how people and goods move in the future.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pacific Time on Thursday June 9, each mayor will take turns making a “final pitch” presentation, including a short video and discussion with Secretary Foxx. Mayor Hales is scheduled to present at 11:45 a.m. PST. The mayors will be seated together on a stage at the Long View Gallery in Washington, D.C.

Learn more about the Smart City Challenge. Anyone can sign up to watch the “final pitch” presentations online from your own computer, but registration is requested.
