The Portland Building Presents Architect Aaron Whelton
January 19. 2017
The Portland Building’s newest art installation is “Stacked Toroid” by architect Aaron Whelton.
Aaron Whelton studied architecture at the University of Kentucky and the University of California, Los Angeles. He is currently an Assistant Professor at Portland State’s School of Architecture.
Stacked Toroid is part of Aaron’s design research at Portland State exploring digitally-designed architecture. The toroid sculpture resembles a doughnut formed from “lofted elliptical profiles.”
The Regional Arts & Culture Council (RACC) says, “Stacked Toroid combines sophisticated digital design technologies with simple methods of construction and assembly to explore the relevance of manual labor in the age of computation.”
Visitors will immediately notice the shift in shapes as they move past the wood lattice installation.
