Back At Parks!

September 4, 2018

Today, Nick officially stepped back into the role of Commissioner-in-Charge of Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R).

Commissioner Fritz led PP&R for the past five years and made significant new investments in underserved parts of our community and led a successful $68 million bond campaign.

Nick previously served as Parks Commissioner from 2009-2013. In 2011, Portland Parks & Recreation won the National Gold Medal for the best parks and recreation management in the nation from the American Academy for Park & Recreation Administration and the National Recreation & Park Association.

As Parks Commissioner, Nick’s priorities include making parks and recreation programs more accessible, deepening the partnerships that bring outside investment and volunteers to our system, strengthening the relationship between the Bureau of Environmental Services and PP&R, and expanding our network of parks, trails, and natural areas – especially in underserved parts of our city.

As former City Commissioner and PP&R Director Charles Jordan once put it: “parks are more than just fun and games.” We agree! They are essential to a healthy and thriving city.
