Healthy Sleep Tips

Healthy sleep habits can make a huge difference in your quality of life.  Sleep affects almost every type of tissue and system in the body – from the brain, heart, and lungs to metabolism, immune function, mood, and disease resistance. Sleep is an important part of your daily routine—you spend about one-third of your time doing it.  Quality sleep – and getting enough of it at the right times -- is as essential to survival as food and water. Try to keep the following sleep practices on a consistent basis:

-          Stick to a sleep schedule

-          Exercise daily

-          Create a comfortable environment for sleeping

-          Use a comfortable mattress and pillows

-          Avoid alcohol, cigarettes and heavy meals in the evening

-          Set a routine to wind down

-          Avoid bright light at least one hour before bed including computer, cell phone, and television
