  • Helping to lead the way towards a low-carbon future At this year’s C40 summit, Portland was recognized with an award for its 2015 Climate Action Plan

  • Partnering with the world’s greatest cities to influence the global conversation on climate change The west coast, from BC to California, is the fifth largest economy in the world. Portland and Oregon, in partnership with our west coast neighbors, are helping to lead the way to a low-carbon future

  • We must do it together Even with a 33 percent increase in population, seven percent fewer gallons of gasoline were sold in Multnomah County in 2014 than in 1990

  • Population and jobs up, carbon emissions down As of 2014, per person carbon emissions are 41 percent below 1990 levels. Total carbon emissions are 21 percent below 1990

On April 10, 2017, City of Portland and Multnomah County leaders vowed to transition to 100 percent clean energy by 2050. The goal is to meet the community's electricity needs from renewable sources by 2035 and shift all remaining energy sources to renewables in the 15 years after.

The joint City of Portland and Multnomah County 2015 Climate Action Plan builds on Portland’s 20+ year legacy of climate action. The Climate Action Plan provides a roadmap for the community to achieve an 80 percent reduction in carbon emissions by 2050, with an interim goal of a 40 percent reduction by 2030.

The Climate Change Preparation Strategy identifies actions the City and County are taking to prepare for the coming impacts of a changing climate.
