Eastbank Crescent Riverfront Plan

  • Popular Holman Dock The plan looks at how to provide access to the river for non-motorized boaters and swimmers while minimizing conflicts [photo: Ralph Sanders]

  • Greenway Trail The Greenway Trail is busy through the Eastbank Crescent, with bicyclists, pedestrians, OMSI visitors and boat launchers

  • Swimming in the City The city is evaluating the potential for a public swimming beach in the Central City

The City of Portland is developing a plan to redesign the Eastbank Crescent as a vibrant public destination and a fish and wildlife refuge. The crescent-shaped, shallow-water riverfront site is located between the Hawthorne Bridge and OMSI and traversed by the Willamette Greenway Trail. The area has potential for improved recreational access to and into the Willamette River for people and boats, and to enhance habitat for migrating fish.

The Bureau of Planning and Sustainability is working on this planning project in collaboration with Portland Parks & Recreation, the Bureau of Environmental Services, Portland Development Commission, other local government and community partners, and the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry.

The Eastbank Crescent Riverfront Plan and accompanying Central City Potential Swimming Beach Sites Study will be presented to the Portland City Council in spring 2017.
