Urban Forestry

  • Check out amazing Heritage Trees throughout the city of Portland!

  • Urban Forestry manages over 218,000 trees along streets and 1.2 million trees within parks.

Portland Parks & Recreation Urban Forestry's mission is to manage and ensure Portland's urban forest infrastructure for current and future generations. Our urban forest consists of 218,000 street trees, 1.2 million park trees, and innumerable private property trees. Urban Forestry is involved in managing or regulating all of these trees to differing degrees- creating and implementing the city's Urban Forest Management Plan, fostering community tree awareness and stewardship, developing tree policies and programs, monitoring and assessing the urban forest, issuing permits for planting, pruning, and removal of public and some private trees, and responding to tree emergencies.

Report Tree Issues on City Property and Public Streets

If you see a downed tree or large limb (not small branches), call 503-823-TREE (8733). Urban Forestry crews are working on biggest impacts first, as well as mitigating safety issues before clearing debris.

Portland's tree code, Title 11 Trees, is in effect.
Visit the Portland Trees website at portlandoregon.gov/trees to find tree permit requirements and applications.
