Rose City Golf Course

Course Overview
Rose City has a rich history. The land it stands on was the first landing field for airplanes in the vicinity. It also has been home to the Portland Country Club. The first nine holes of today's golf course was once a racetrack, where the American Legion featured a head-on collision between two locomotives. Today, this golf course features challenging long par 4s and tree-lined fairways.

In 1921, Portland resident and avid golfer A.H. Gould designed an informal 9 holes that locals could play. That same year, Rose City Golf Association formed with the intent of encouraging the City of Portland to convert the property to an official golf course. Their efforts were successful, and in 1923 the first 9 holes of Rose City Golf Course opened for play.  After issuing public utility certificates, funds were secured to build a clubhouse. Herbert A. Angell provided the English-cottage inspired drawings and general contractor B.T. Allyn led construction, which began in 1931. The clubhouse opened in 1932 and joined the National Register of Historic Places Program in 2012.
