Lead Hazard Control Program

  • Before-After House The Portland Lead Hazard Control Program keeps kids safe from the dangers of lead.

Lead-based paint was used in many homes built prior to 1978. When lead-based paint is disturbed through remodeling; daily wear and tear on doors, windows and other painted surfaces; or deteriorated by age, it creates dust. This dust can poison children--even a small amount of dust can be enough to do harm.

The Portland Lead Hazard Control Program provides an evaluation of lead hazards and financial assistance to reduce lead-based paint hazards in housing occupied by qualified low- and moderate-income households. Use the links at left and below to learn more.

If you have questions regarding lead poisoning, lead-safe work practices, or other general issues related to lead-based paint, please call the Multnomah County LeadLine at (503) 988-4000.
