122nd Avenue Area Safety Improvements

PBOT is installing three new rapid flashing beacons and filling in sidewalk gaps in areas along 122nd Avenue between SE Foster Road and NE Sandy Boulevard to improve safety for travelers.

122nd Avenue Improvements

Project installed in 2016 included (click to enlarge):

  • 122nd Ave:

    • Rapid flashing beacons and pedestrian islands at NE Stanton St., NE Holladay St. and SE Woodward Pl.

    • New sidewalk from NE 122nd Ave. to the nearby Kmart

  • NE 92nd Ave.: New sidewalk from NE Sandy Blvd. to NE Prescott St.
  • NE Sandy Blvd.: New sidewalk from NE Prescott St. to NE 92nd Ave.
  • NE Prescott St.:
    • New sidewalk (north side) from I-205 to NE 102nd Ave.
    • Marked crosswalk at NE 121st Ave. & NE Prescott St.
  • SE Foster Rd.
    • Guardrail removal and sidewalk repair (south side) from SE Henry St. to SE Woodstock Ct. using a cycle track design
    • New sidewalk (north side) near SE 107th Ave. and SE 111th Ave.
    • New sidewalk (south side) east of SE 110th/111th Ave.

PBOT considers 122nd Avenue to be a High Crash Corridor, which prioritizes installation of safety projects on and near the road. The improvements along 122nd Avenue are coordinated with TriMet, which will be increasing the frequency of the Line 71 bus route.

Portland City Council provided funding for the $3.1 million project in 2015 when it allocated a portion of general funds for road safety.
