NE Columbia Boulevard at NE MLK Jr Boulevard Intersection Improvements
What’s happening now?
The project is basically completed. The contractor will need to continue doing plant establishment on the new trees planted in the area. Due to savings in the project we will be grinding and paving the intersection of Columbia and MLK in June of 2020.
Project Background and Description:
The westbound right turn movement at the intersection of NE Columbia Boulevard and NE Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard moves a significant amount of freight traffic. At this intersection, congestion makes it difficult for freight traffic to travel efficiently.
The NE Columbia Boulevard at OR 99E/Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard project will construct a dedicated westbound right turn lane on NE Columbia Boulevard at the intersection of NE Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and NE Columbia Boulevard. In addition, a 12-foot sidewalk adjacent to the new right turn lane and a new traffic signal will be constructed. Finally, this project will be completed by Just Bucket Construction.
Construction Date: The project is expected to be completed by end of April 2020.
Current Project Phase: The majority of the work has been completed with the exception of minor signal work which will be completed in April of 2020.
Total Project Budget: Funded with the Surface Transportation Program (STP), a federal grant, this project’s total budget is $ 3.4 million.
