What We Do

  • Large construction projects are typically planned at least a year in advance. Main repairs happen whenever and where ever they occur, often at night.

  • Water Quality Monitoring An active monitoring plan helps track water quality throughout the watershed and across town.

  • Commitment to Sustainable Operations The bureau integrates sustainability into its operations and tracks its carbon footprint every year.

  • Fish Habitat Restoration Coho fry collected from the Little Sandy River.

  • Columbia South Shore Well Field Groundwater is pumped from this facility to provide supplemental water to supply system, as needed.

  • Reservoir 2 These two intake towers withdraw cool water from the reservoir during summer.

Portland's water system has been in place since 1895. While the system parts have grown throughout the years, many of the basics have stayed the same. Learn more about what it takes to to get water to your tap -- from forest to faucet!
