The technology exists today to detect more substances in drinking water, at lower levels, than ever before. As analytical methods improve, naturally occurring or man-made chemicals that previously have not been studied or detected in water are being found at minute levels in many of our nation’s lakes, rivers and streams.
The Portland Water Bureau is working to understand the occurrence of a number of these substances by conducting voluntary testing of its drinking water and participating in national research programs.
Additionally, the Portland Water Bureau is monitoring drinking water trends across the country to stay informed of new water quality issues. If any new issues do arise in the Portland Water Bureau system, more information and test results will be posted here.
